“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
The 12 Steps are a set of guiding principles that are used by various recovery programs to help individuals overcome addiction. They emphasize personal accountability, spiritual growth, and community support.
1. We admit that we were powerless—that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Come to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us.
3. Decide to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4. Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admit to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Are entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly ask Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. Make a list of all persons we harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Have a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, try to carry this message and practice these principles in all our affairs.
These steps are intended to guide individuals through the process of acknowledging their addiction, seeking spiritual help, making amends, and maintaining sobriety while helping others in their recovery journey.
Program Overview: 12-Step Pathway to Recovery
The NELA Supportive Communities Sober House Program is built upon the foundation of the 12-Step Recovery model, providing a safe and structured environment for individuals in recovery from substance abuse. Our mission is to create a comprehensive support system that helps members walk the path to healing, personal growth, and lasting sobriety.
Our program not only offers stable housing but integrates the 12 Steps into daily life, encouraging personal accountability, spiritual growth, and community support. Each member is guided through the 12-Step journey, learning to take responsibility for their recovery while finding strength in fellowship and faith.
Stable Housing Our sober homes provide a clean, substance-free environment where members can focus entirely on their recovery journey. Each member is expected to take responsibility for maintaining the house and upholding a supportive, respectful community atmosphere.
12-Step Integration Member actively work through the 12 Steps as a central part of their recovery process. Group meetings, step work, and peer mentorship help members connect with their higher power, surrender control, and gain the tools to overcome addiction.
Spiritual and Emotional Support We emphasize spiritual growth and emotional healing as essential aspects of recovery. Members are guided to rely on their faith and spirituality, participate in prayer and meditation, and find strength in their relationship with a higher power.
Accountability and Peer Support Our program fosters an environment of mutual accountability and trust. Regular house meetings, support groups, house manager and peer check-ins ensure that members are held accountable for their actions and encouraged to stay committed to their recovery journey.
Life Skills and Job Support We empower members by supporting job training and opportunities to develop life skills, such as budgeting, time management, and personal care. This helps them regain independence and prepares them for life after the program.
Reintegration into Society We understand that the ultimate goal is reintegration into the community. Members are supported in making amends, rebuilding relationships, and finding employment or volunteer opportunities that align with their new life of sobriety.
